Tehran, Iran: A Beautiful City with Open Arms

Tehran, Iran: A Beautiful City with Open Arms

Tehran is the capital of Iran. It is a four-season city with hot and dry summers, cold and snowy winters, and very pleasant springs and autumns. Tehran is a historical city, with a combination of modern and traditional architecture. Iranians are well known for being very hospitable. Specifically, they are very kind and respectful to foreigners and guests.

Tourist attractions

Palaces and museums

There are a lot of historical places to visit in Tehran. Royal palaces such as Golestan palace, Niavaran palace, Saad abad palace and many other historical monuments are the best representatives of Persian art. Also, there are lots of museums such as the Carpet Museum, Abgineh Museum, and National Jewelry Museum which represent the glorious history of Tehran and Iran.

Bazaars

There are several modern and magnificent shopping centers and commercial complexes in Tehran, such as the iconic Milad Tower, but I recommend you visit Tehran Grand Bazaar. Tehran Grand Bazaar is a historical bazaar with a lot of different passages. Each passage is devoted to one kind of merchandise. There are passages for carpets, gold jewelery, silver, fabrics, and so on. This bazaar is perfect for buying souvenirs. There are a number of restaurants in the Grand Bazaar, among which “Moslem” restaurant is the most famous. The food served here is very delicious. Don’t forget to try Doogh an Iranian drink
with an exotic but nice taste, which is also very healthy.

Tabiat Bridge

Tabiat Bridge or Nature Bridge is a large pedestrian overpass, which connects two parks (Taleghani Park and Abo-Atash Park). The bridge has a sophisticated and interesting architecture with three different levels. There are many restaurants on the bridge, and it has a perfect view to the city.

Darband and Darakeh

They are two different places, but are similar in many ways. Both are located at high altitude in the north of Tehran. For reaching either of these places, you need to do a little hiking. Then you will reach a paradise with lots of delicious eats. There you can find a wide variety of Iranian snacks, particularly Lavashak (fruit leather). Both places have many restaurants, which serve their customers either indoors or outdoors. Then you can enjoy the beautiful view of the city and the nice weather on the mountain.

Tochal

Tochal is the name of a mountain in the north of Tehran. In winters, Tochal becomes a very popular ski resort. Even if you are not into hiking or skiing, you can go up by the telecabin, and enjoy the view of Tehran.

Tehran’s surroundings

There are a lot of gardens and natural resorts surrounding Tehran. Fasham and Lavasan are the most famous suburban towns of Tehran province. They are well-known of having pleasant weather and numerous orchards.

Food and cuisines

On the contrary of what some people think, Iranian food in no way is like Turkish or Arabic food. Iranians use unique spices which are used exclusively in Iranian cuisines and are not so common in other parts of the world. Saffron, rose water, sumac, dried lime (Limoo Amani), are some of them. You can try a lot of unique flavors in Tehran. Make sure to try barberry rice (Zereshk polo). I am sure you will enjoy its unique taste. Also, Iranian kebabs are extremely different from kebabs prepared in other countries. Another traditional Iranian cuisine is Dizi, which is very nice to try. Also, our traditional ice cream made with pistachio and saffron is very lovely. Faloode Shirazi is also a traditional Iranian dessert which is perfect for Tehran’s hot summers. Nuts, dried fruits, Lavashak (fruit leather), and Ghareghorut are Iranian snacks. They are all very delicious and natural.

Clothing in Iran

Some people think there is a strict dress code in Iran, especially for women. But, in fact, Tehran’s street style is very fun and chic.

If you like history, art, lively cities, nightlife, luxury hotels, delicious food, rich culture and nice people, Tehran has it all. Tehrani people love nightlife. Even during the workdays of the week, they are out in cafes, restaurants, shopping malls, and entertainment places until midnight. In fact, I believe Tehran never sleeps.
